- For Use in Foreign Countries -

Single status certificate (for non-Muslim) or letter of permission to marry (for Muslim) may be required by the marriage registration authorities in some countries when a Malaysian citizen registers his/her marriage with a non-Malaysian citizen outside of Malaysia. 

Single status certificate (for non-Muslim) certifies that the Malaysian citizen is single and is valid for 150 days from the date of issuance.

It may also be required for other purposes such as employment, studies and purchase of real property in foreign countries.
